"Hi everyone! We left La Cruz last night just before midnight. We rounded Cabo Corrientes at 4:45am and had our first sighting of the southern cross just after 5:00am.
Debbie was on watch at that time, she had to watch it for a while then play Jimmy Buffets "Southern Cross" song a few times. Then she woke me up and showed it to me before the sun came up. We have seen lots of wildlife on this trip. Lots of turtles, dolphins, and whales.
Debbie even saw a whale fling itself out of the water - the first time to see an entire breach! We pulled into Chamela around 3:45 this afternoon. It's a bit rocky so we put out the flopper stopper. We plan on sitting here for a few days. We're expecting a few of our fellow sailboats to arrive tomorrow.
Our current position is: 19 deg 35.55'N; 105 deg 06.45'W."
Now Carolyn is typing: So there's the latest update from Oasis. I thought I would snaz it up a bit with some music or a video of Jimmy Buffett playing Southern Cross (Crosby, Stills, and Nash). But I'm all out of good searching karma and couldn't get a clip of it.
What I need you to do is get out your best singing voice and your instrumentals. Here are the lyrics. Ready? All together now, one, two three....
Got out of town on a boat to the southern islands,
On a reach before a followin' sea.
We were makin' for the trades on the outside,
On the downwind run to Papeete
Off the wind on this heading by the Marquesas.
We got eighty feet of waterline
Nicely making way.
In a noisy bar in Avalon I tried to call you,
But on a midnight watch I realized why twice you ran away.
Think about how many times I have fallen.
Spirits are using me, larger voices callin'.
What Heaven brought you and me cannot be forgotten.
I have been around the world,
Lookin' for that woman, girl,
Who knows love can endure,
And you know it will (and you know it will).
When you see the Southern Cross for the first time,
You understand just why you came this way,
'Cause the truth you've been runnin' from is so small,
But it's as big as the promise,
the promise of a coming day.
And I'm headed all the way,
my tears are a-dyin',
And my love is an anchor tied to you,
tied with a silver chain.
I have my ship and all her flags are a-flyin'.
She is all that I have left and music is her name.
Think about how many times I have fallen.
Spirits are using me,
larger voices callin'.
What Heaven brought you and me cannot be forgotten.
I have been around the world,
Lookin' for that woman, girl,
Who knows love can endure,
And you know it will (and you know it will).
So we cheated and we lied and we tested,
And we never failed to fail,
it was the easiest thing to do.
You will survive being bested,
Somebody strong comes along make's me forget about loving you
And the Southern Cross, WOOOOO!
